Why Join SALTA?


Some may ask why they should join SALTA when they can belong to the MLA or ACTFL and when our organization is still struggling to shape up and take off. The fact is that no other organization puts at the heart of its mission the goals, concerns and interests of those who teach South Asian languages and literatures and SALTA is the only professional association dedicated precisely to this field. SALTA is critically important for maintaining our identity as a field focused predominantly on the languages, literatures and cultures of South Asia, and for ensuring the vitality of our field into the future. SALTA works together with South Asia Language Resource Center (SALRC) to help push the agenda of support for research in South Asian languages. SALTA pays dues to the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages (NCOLCTL) Your membership in SALTA helps support these causes, too.
